Sunway Lagoon - A Day to Remember
Us at the entrance of Sunway Lagoon

I was planning to write this article a long ago but I couldn't find the time to write it and here I'm writing it now. We traveled to Malaysia on July 2022. During our stay in Malaysia, one major attraction that we had in our plan was Sunway Lagoon. There are several theme parks /water parks in Malaysia. Due to the popularity and after going through the reviews we decided to visit Sunway Lagoon.

Entrance to Sunway Lagoon

Our accommodation was located in the KL Sentral area and to reach Sunway Lagoon we had to take either a bus or a taxi. Since the bus ride was like 1hr we choose to go on the bus. Sunway Lagoon opens daily at 10 AM and is open till 11 PM. Sunway Lagoon is closed on Tuesdays. So keep this in mind if you are planning a visit to Sunway Lagoon. There are many ways to purchase tickets. The main options are either to purchase it at the ticketing counters after visiting the place or to buy it earlier online from different platforms like Sunway Lagoon's official website, Klook, GetYourGuide, etc. What we did was buy the tickets through Klook before going to the Sunway Lagoon. That helped us a lot to avoid so much queueing time. On the day that we visit the ticketing counters were so much busy and there were a lot of crowds. Still, we had to spend a bit of time showing our e-tickets and collecting our identification wristbands.  So our recommendation is you buy the ticket beforehand through reliable online platforms like the official website, Klook, or Get Your Guide.

I bought the tickets through Klook because the prices for the ticket was a bit less compared to the official website. It's always a good practice to cross-check the prices through different reliable platforms like Klook and Get Your Guide because there are a lot of discounts that may be applied at certain times for different attractions and it might be super cheap sometimes than purchasing from the official websites or apps.

When booking the tickets please do it carefully. There are options for you to select whether you are Malaysian or not. For Malaysians, ticket prices are obviously low. So select the correct ticket when doing the booking. Also if you have more time and money there is a 2-day fun pass ticket. This ticket can be used to visit Sunway Lagoon for two consecutive days. Also if you are visiting on a weekend or on a special Malaysian Holiday keep in mind that there will be a lot of crowds and sometimes you might not get the chance to explore everything during the day. So it's advised to avoid weekends and holidays if you are on a vacation journey. Otherwise, you will be spending more time in the queues for different rides than the time actually spent on doing the rides. There are queues for almost all rides. There is a special pass called "Quack Xpress" you can buy from the ticketing platforms or from the ticket counter.  There is a fee for this Quack Xpress pass. But if you are visiting on a weekend or a general holiday this pass might come in handy to avoid queues and to have more fun doing the rides. Since we went on a weekday we actually didn't need it.

What we received after the booking through Klook mobile app was an e-ticket. On the day of the visit, we had to show it to the online ticket redemption counter and get our wristbands. So this wristband acts as your ticket throughout your stay. Also if you need to have a locker for you you can request that as well from the ticketing counter they will charge a small fee for that as well. Since we had bags with us we opted to get two lockers for myself and my wife. The QR code printed on our wristband acts as the locker key. These lockers are located in the changing rooms. Also, keep in mind the basic lockers that are given are not that large. If you have many bags or many things to put into the lockers better to buy a large-size locker. Also, you are not allowed to bring any food or drink items to the park. Not even water. If you have food or drink items you are given a locker at the entrance and you need to keep those in that locker and when you are leaving the premises you can collect them. A small fee will be charged for that locker as well. If you need to buy anything to eat there are shops and food stalls located inside the park and you can buy from them. Obviously, the prices are a bit higher compared to the prices that we see outside but you don't have any other option over that.

There is an option to use this wristband as an e-wallet as well. If you are visiting Sunway lagoon for a full-day visit we recommend you recharge some amount to your wristband so that it will be super easy for you if you get any requirement to purchase anything while being inside the park. If you need to buy food or anything else you can show the QR on your wrist band and the amount will be deducted from your e-wallet. Otherwise, it will be a real hassle to go to the locker room and bring your wallet, do the payment, and then again go to the locker room to keep the wallet.

There are 6 different parks inside Sunway Lagoon namely

  • Amusement Park
  • Scream Park
  • Wildlife Park
  • Extreme Park
  • Water Park
  • Nickelodeon Lost Lagoon

From our experience what we would recommend is to first cover the Amusement Park, Scream Park, and Extreme parks first and to go to the Water Park last. As we remember the water park and the amusement, scream and extreme parks are closing by 6 PM. So keep in mind to cover them before they close for the rides. After that, you can stay in the park and there is a night park as well.

During our visit, we first visited the extreme park and got on a couple of rides. Those were really amazing and people were screaming all over :D.

After that, we went to the amusement park and where also we got on rides and experienced them. Those were super fun rides.

Then in the scream park, there were people queueing up for a show. One show was already going on and we lined up for the next show.  That show was also really good but it was not as scary as it sounds. But if you visit Sunway Lagoon try it as well.

Also, there is a wildlife park as well. There are different animals displayed in cages like tigers, lions, etc. Also, you can take pictures with Macaw Parrots as well. You are not allowed to take pictures from your phones or cameras. There is a photographer and they take the photographs. On the way out you can select those photos and if you are buying only you have to pay for them.

After completing all land activities we got changed and started heading to the water park. There is a huge suspension bridge that runs from one end of the park to the other end. It runs over the wave pool. It is the world's longest pedestrian suspension bridge.

As per the descriptions that we show there, that is the biggest surf pool in the world. The view from the bridge was stunning. Bunjee jumping and zip line games start from the middle of the bridge. Those activities are not included in your ticket. If you are planning to do them you have to purchase tickets at those game locations. That's when the e-wallet thing comes in handy.

Since we finished the land side activities much early we had a lot of time to spend in the water park to do all the water activities. Vuvuzela was the most exciting one. Each and every water activity was different and those were super exciting. We did the same activity multiple times as well. Inside the water park, there was a 4D film hall and since we saw some people heading toward that we also went there. They gave us 3D glasses and a short 15-minute movie was shown there. It was also a super experience. When the movie shows that we are going near water, sprinklers were spreading water all over us. That was a super experience as well :D.

Since we were hungry we purchased some lunch and had it at the restaurant. Around 4.30 we headed to the wave pool. There was a DJ happening on the stage which was located in the middle of the surf pool. People were dancing to the music and it was also a great location to enjoy.

Around 6 PM there were announcements made through loudspeakers they are going to close the activities. So we got out of the pool and got changed back.

While checking out of the premises we looked into the photos that the photographer took of us and they were good. But the price was a bit higher so we choose not to buy those. After that, we directly headed to the exit gates and collected our food bag which we put in the locker. After that, it was time for us to leave this amazing place. Since we had to cover a lot of activities throughout the day we couldn't capture as many photos as we wanted. But we were able to get at least a few :).

As the tagline of Sunway Lagoon says "Best Day Ever", it was one of the best days that we had <3. If you are planning a visit to Malaysia, this is one of the must-visit places.
