We are living in a time period where we can't travel freely as we did back in those days before 2020. This applies to traveling locally as well abroad. So there are certain things that you need to know before traveling specially when it comes to traveling abroad.

After Covid-19 different countries have different travel restrictions implemented. Some countries have different travel restrictions.

Depending on the country you are visiting, you may have a check. The restriction levels are enforced by the authorities in that particular country. Because some countries are having light travel registrations as well as some other countries have tight restrictions.

In my case, I was traveling to Malaysia. So in this article, I will be telling you about the things that I had to follow and things that would be useful for you all if you are visiting next time to Malaysia.

There is a mobile application named MySejahtera. The app is available on both App Store and Play Store. You need to have this mobile application installed in your mobile application. It's a MUST !!!

MySejahtera app in Play Store

Download the mobile application to your phone at least a couple of weeks earlier if possible. I know that installing a mobile application doesn't take that much time and it's an easy task. But if you make any mistake. while filling out the details in the mobile app you won't be able to quickly correct them. You may have to wait a couple of days until someone gets back to you via email. So to be on the safe side do this as much as earlier if possible. To give you an example one of my friends missed a flight to Malaysia since he didn't have the mobile application installed and details filled in.

Once you installed the app and filled in your basic details and travel details you need to enter your vaccination details into the app as well. For that, you need to get your digital vaccination certificate from your country of residence. In my case, I am from Sri Lanka and I had to request the medical authorities to issue me a digital vaccination certificate. This also took at least one week to receive. So do these as soon as possible. Once you obtain the certificate it will have a QR code in the certificate and you need to scan it through the MySejahtera app it will read the QR and will validate the vaccination details. If vaccination details are validated app will display you as a fully vaccinated person and there will be a digital certificate issued to you inside your mobile app.

If you are Sri Lankan your vaccination certificate will not be automatically validated. You need to get the vaccination details from your certificate and manually enter it into the mobile app. Once you do this you will also be able to get the vaccination certificate displayed inside your mobile app. To enter vaccination details follow these steps.

Click Traveller Icon
Select Overseas Vaccination Details
Click on update
Fill out vaccination details

Once you fill in the details correctly the app will display as below.

Digital Certificate Issued through the app

After you do all these things there is a form inside the mobile app that you need to fill normally a day before you leave for Malaysia. So please remember to do that as well. In the following screenshots, I have explained how to do that.

Click the traveler icon
Select Travel For <your name>
Click start and fill out the form
Once filled submit it

On the day of the travel please bring your digital vaccination certificates issued by your local authorities printed with you along with your other travel documents to make the check-in process more smooth.

When you travel to different places within Malaysia shopping malls, theme parks, Trains, Buses, and different attractions security officers may ask you to show your app. So please keep the mobile app with you if they ask you to show it. Generally in my experience, they were not checking it strictly when entering places but they check whether you have the app or not.

I hope this information will be useful for you if you are planning your next trip to Malaysia. Hope you had a good read and please do give your feedback about the article as well. The information given here is collected from the internet as well as from my experience.
